Meet Your Midcounty Eye Doctors:
A native and life-long resident of southeast Texas, Dr. Young has practiced optometry with Texas State Optical in the Golden Triangle for over thirty years. After graduating Lamar University Beaumont, he later earned his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Beginning his optometry career at TSO Port Arthur, he has practiced the last twenty years at TSO Mid County. Licensed as a therapeutic optometrist, he practices family care optometry and enjoys serving the vision and eyecare needs of long-time patients, neighbors and friends.
Dr. Layne Ford, a Southeast Texas native, is excited to call this area her home once more! She graduated with honors from Lamar University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. During her time there, she worked at TSO-Midcounty as an optometric technician and optical sales consultant. After graduating, she decided to further her career in the optometric field. She went to the University of Houston where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry in 2017. Dr. Ford is a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist and is trained in the management of ocular conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration. She is passionate about myopia management – slowing the progression of nearsightedness in children, along with improving vision in people with corneal abnormalities, such as keratoconus or post-surgical eyes that require medically necessary contact lenses. After starting her career at a private practice in League City, Texas, she is happy to be back in her hometown at TSO-Midcounty helping her patients look good, feel good and see good!
Dr. Ford enjoys cooking, traveling, being outdoors and spending time with her friends and family, especially her husband, Dave and their Siberian Husky, Layla.

Alyssa skillfully serves the patients of TSO as the doctor’s receptionist. Her 5 years in the medical field, along with a background in nursing studies are a proven asset. She helps patients with their scheduling needs, insuring all vision benefits are verified prior to the appointment. Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family, fishing and watching her sons play baseball.
Lakindra, born in Louisiana and raised in Texas, enjoys helping patients find the most complementary frames. With 13 years experience in optical industry, she ensures the best selection of lenses and frames to meet every patient’s prescription requirements with the in best vision and comfort. She is known for her contagious and welcoming smile. Lakindra has two sons and loves spending as much time with them as possible.
Kelly, the most recent addition to our staff, is a native of Port Arthur. After a short time away from the area, she is happy to return to Texas to join the TSO team working as the doctor’s assistant. Kelly’s warm friendly personality is very reassuring to patients as she performs multiple pretesting procedures. She enjoys interacting with patients and helping them with their contact lens.
Becky, an Optometric Assistant, has returned to the workforce after relocating to Southeast Texas from Florida with her husband. They plan to make Texas their permanent home, as they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. With her warm and friendly personality, she performs the pretesting portion of the eye exam. New contact lens wearers receive her personal attention instructing them in the care and use of their lens.
Pam Housley, certified by the American Board of Opticians since 1989, began her career with Texas State Optical in 1977. As the practice manager, she continues her passion to uphold TSO’s commitment to excellence. Her dedication to providing our patients with the best products and services is unsurpassed. Recognized as a leader in the industry, Pam has served on various committees with Texas State Optical. As a member of the Operations Committee, she contributed to the development of practice management and training programs. She works diligently to ensure all patients experience ‘Five Star’ vision care.
Joanne masterfully maintains order in our reception department. She will greet you upon your arrival and promptly assess your service needs. From scheduling to registration, along with verifying insurance and check-out, she cheerfully and efficiently processes your patient data. She provides excellent customer service to patients by diligently seeking to locate all medical and vision benefits prior to their appointment.
Norine joined our TSO Team after moving to Southeast Texas from Arizona. She has worked in optometric practices for 6 years as an Optometric Assistant. She is a proven asset to the TSO team, as she serves patients in all aspects of the practice, including patient eyewear selection and lens recommendation. Her desire to provide excellent patient care is apparent in the attention given to every patient. Weekends are spent enjoying fishing and hiking with her husband and German Shepherds.
Sarah, experienced in many facets of the TSO practice, wears many hats. She willing fills in where needed. Her responsibilities may include those of Receptionist, Doctor’s Assistant, Contact Lens Tech and Optical Assistant. At this time, she chooses to work part-time enabling her to devote more time to her children.
Ellen plays an important role in Texas State Optical’s service commitment to our patients. Her background in medical billing and coding give her the needed insight to maximize your vision benefits. Valued by our team as the staff’s ‘go to’ person, she is always available to help. Although known for her ‘fancy’ shoes, she manages to wear many TSO hats. Just to name a few, she is the Claims Specialist, the Internet Technologist and the Administrative Assistant.
Annese manages all aspects of the finishing lab at TSO Midcounty. With her 30+ years of experience, cutting, edging & mounting lens, you can be certain your glasses meet or exceed the highest quality standards. She personally inspects and verifies all completed eyeglasses giving them her own ‘seal of approval’. The patient’s satisfaction is her commitment and ultimate goal.
